Road Safety is also an important topic on Australian roads. They have a road safety campaign called “RTA anti-speeding campaign”. This campaign should show how dangerous it is, when young people don’t follow the Australian road rules.
The most popular car brand in Australia is Ford. Every fourth young driver gets a Ford as his birthday present. Every car prototype produced by Ford must be tested in a crash-test first. There they test the safety of a car prototype. The most important crash test is a front-on test where the car hits a barrier with a speed of 64km/h.
Another important information for younger people is that they must not answer a hand-held mobile phone call while they are driving. For every new driver it’s important to know, that it’s completely illegal to use a mobile phone when you sit at the steering wheel of your car. It’s also not allowed to play games or send text messages like SMS. Such acts lead the drivers to excessive speed or other carelessnesses fast. The result of a study has shown that because of this the risk of getting hurt in an accident is 32 times higher, when the driver is driving 80km/h instead of 60km/h.

Another big problem in Australia is alcohol on steering wheel. Young people often drink one or two drinks on parties and then they drive home.  What they don’t know is that the risk of a crash doubles when they have a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of 0.05 gram per milliliter. This is also confirmed by the statistics. 18% of all crashes are a result of driving after drinking and another point is that 90% of all people involved are men.

Another important point in Australia is school safety. There have been established school speed zones, where the maximum speed limit is 40km/h. When you are driving too fast in these zones you have to pay a high penalty of minimum 128$ an you also get 4 demerit points.
